Paying More to Receive a Smaller Deduction

TurboTax is relatively straightforward to use. It helps makes filing taxes easy, and any questions I have can be answered. I do love that. What frustrates me is when they automatically switch me to the non-free version and I don't realize it. Because I got a $50 deduction for something, I had to pay $79 dollars for the deluxe version. What a rip-off. Why would I claim that deduction? I'm paying more than I'm getting back. Before I realized how dumb that was, I had already submitted my card info and paid. Additionally, I couldn't pay partially with my refund and partially with card. Perhaps there is something that makes that too complicated for TurboTax, but that seems odd. An explanation would be nice.

Loved it! Anytime I was confused about something, I would use the tips y'all give! It was such an easy way for the hubs and I to file our taxes and we saved so much money with TurboTax!!

no 1099-CONS option for entry - have to submit each separately which is time-consuming. also, why does it cost more if you have 1099-B information if information is manually entered? doesn't make sense to me.
