Full of Dark Patterns and Misdirection

TurboTax is a pretty good straightforward tool that allows for the navigation of some of the weirder parts of the tax code, as well as those who have simple taxes. I've worked with the whole spectrum, from owning a business and having all sorts of deductions to forms all the way from just having a W2 as my only form. I've used TurboTax for just over 10 years now and I haven't had problems with my taxes, and have been able to ask questions of those who may know more than me with support related questions.
However this product is worse with upsales and clickholes than a moble game ad, just about every step of the way, each new form you fill out it pulls up a popup "WHY DON'T YOU UPGRADE TO MAX TO ENSURE YOU DON'T GET AUDITED AND ARE ASSURED WITH YOUR RETURN" "UPGRADE TO PRO TO COMPLETE THIS RETURN" with huge scary insinuations of what *might* happen if you don't pay them more money and upgrade. On top of the fact that the upgrade button is PRESELECTED, HIGHLIGHTED, and OUTLINED; opting out of an upgrade seems like you are doing something wrong. All that is missing is a "No I don't want to save money" or "No, I'm ok with being audited" text on the DON'T UPGRADE button to complete the pattern.
All this to mention that if you start your return you don't even START with basic (free). Intuit automatically upgrades you a couple times before you even start filing. THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. It is Federal law that tax filing bodies should provide their tools for free (if under a certain income level, or complexity) and Intuit has already been sued in the past for this. They make it incredibly difficult to keep the free tier, or even to keep a lower paid tier, if you don't 100% know what you are doing you could end up paying a lot to file taxes for no reason.
You can actually call a hotline they setup and request a refund for past expenses. They setup a DEDICATED HOTLINE because their dark patterns are so hard to get past. This is beyond difficult to deal with. If you are new to TurboTax don't even try, If you already use TurboTax good luck getting out. This is likely my last year using this product. It was a meme for a bit, but now it's outright dystopian and bad.

Fast but added fees are annoying

They charge for federal and state and try to constantly add on other fees while you try to do return
