Hidden Fees
on January 28, 2025

This will be the last year I use Turbo Tax. Advertised $0 Federal, $0 State, $0 File. I get to the end and it is not true at all. It is a $49 fee to file state with Federal and the Federal was $79. I just spent an hour completing my taxes. I wasn't about to do it again. I said forget it and went ahead with it. I then get to the payment and there is an extra $40 charge to pay for it out of my tax return. I do not recommend this crooked site. They will hide fees up until the very last minute after you have spent almost an hour working on your taxes.

Turbo needs to do better

Although Turbo is easy to use I disagree with fees for certain form situations and that being the unemployment form. Adding Unemployment benefits is not complicated and that form should be part of the FREE FILE. If someone is on unemployment for half a year it is quite possible they may need every penny refunded to them. I think it is also ridiculous to charge $40 to deduct the fees from the refund. This is why I give 3 stars Do better Turbo Tax.
Pros: My employment status changed this year

Falls short for Utah state taxes....yet again.

Federal...No issues. State...total disaster. I am retired military. I receive a military pension monthly. The state of Utah stopped taxing this pay 2 years ago. TurboTax developers never implemented this change into their software. Per UC §59-10-1043 (https://incometax.utah.gov/credits/military-retirement), "If claiming this credit, enter amount on TC-40A, Part 3, using code AJ ." TurboTax allows TC-40A, Part 3 amount and codes to be input but rejects code AJ as invalid. Way to go TurboTax. This law was changed January 2023, not yesterday. I will have to eFile with the state, again. Just to make the frustrations amplified, TurboTax was adamant about not deleting the (inaccurate) state tax return as it was finished and ready to file. The resulting pop-up window was extremely discouraged that I was not going to submit my $2300 payment to the state of Utah for NOTHING!!!!!!! (and I hate typing in all-caps).
