Since TurboTax successfully lobbied to end the free federal e-filing through the US government, they began to nickel and dime their customers. This is the first time I've ever been prompted to pay so I can use my refund to pay for tax services. I've never had to pay for a simple federal return before, either. If lobbying wasn't illegal, this wouldn't be so frustrating. Shame on TurboTax and shame on the US government.

TurboTax walked me through a more complicated return (including early retirement distributions) without confusion or surprises. The guidance was clear, the questions were precise, and I always knew why something was being asked.
The interface made it easy to catch potential penalties and confirm exceptions, and the “explain my numbers” breakdown was genuinely helpful instead of vague. I finished much faster than expected and felt confident filing, which matters when you’re already juggling work and life stress.
Fees aren’t zero, but the clarity and peace of mind were worth it. I’d rather pay once and file clean than deal with IRS headaches later.

They made me pay money to file my taxes myself. I shouldn't have to pay for something that I am not literally paying someone else to do! This was stupid.
