Our products undergo many quality checks to ensure they get to you with the best results, so we don't expect these things to happen. Make sure the trigger is unlocked. The product should be in the locked position on store shelves. A cutout in the white plastic shows a yellow marking at the top of the sprayer. The tip of the nozzle also has a cutout. It is unlocked when those cutouts are matched up, and the yellow shape is completed. It is locked when the cutouts are not matched up and the yellow shape is incomplete. To unlock the nozzle, grasp the tip of the nozzle and turn to match up the cutouts. Once unlocked and ready to spray, ensure to pull the trigger firmly and all the way for a full spray. We're so sorry you're disappointed at finding a taste lingering on your dishes, Frugalmom. Extensive research and consumer testing goes into our products, and we can understand your disappointment at having this experience. We wouldn't expect Dawn to impart a taste into food, however, if the soap isn't completely rinsed off, or if the dishes have become porous, it is possible. If certain items always pick up a flavor, they're probably worn to the point of being porous, and items made of cast iron and plastic items are known to absorb flavors. If you love our Powerwash but prefer a lighter scent, we recommend using our Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray Free & Clear (in the clear bottle) which has a significantly reduced amount of perfume.
