[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I replaced an older model downdraft and like the new one very much. It comes up higher than my old one and collects more of the smells and steam.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I would advise against a downdraft system--

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If I had to do this over again, I never would have gotten a down draft system. The first problem is that this will not fit against the back of the stove, because of the motor. It is apparently designed to go under a cooktop. The motor is not reversible so there is now a gap between the stove and the downdraft vent. Don't put your stove in the island. If you do get a hood above the range.

This is a sleek, stylish product with a very strong fan. Installation was challenging (it took us three tries to find a handyman who could do it), but once in place it looks great.

KitchenAid Down draft

This is the second, KitchenAid, down draft I bought, as the other one blew a motor after 7 years. I hope this one lasts longer. The motor does not suck up the air from the farthest burner. I had no choice but to buy the same one again. After all these years, you would think they would have improved the suction of the down draft! They did NOT improve it at all, in fact I liked the old one better. Don't you trail test them at all???

Retraction feature is innovative but does not always work pr

Love the retraction feature but the system often does not function properly. The unit will not come up properly with a simple push of the button. It requires holding the button and waiting for the system to engage then releasing the button. Proper timing and fiddling with it is frustrating because the system will disengage and retract instead of coming on. (Possibly an installation error!?) Also, downdraft system does not draw as much as I had hoped although it is much better than our old downdraft system (Jenn-Aire).
Cons: downdraft is insufficient, does not engage/retract properly
