[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] No need for overhead ventilation system. Very sleek looking. Like that it is retractable and when not in use, it just looks like part of the cooktop.
If anyone thinks this unit will allow for a flush mount with a reverse fan box switch you are mistaken. After moving the fan box to the rear, the raise mechanism continues to require 5 1/4 inches from the face of the pop-up vent box. Fan 10 inches out the back and raise unit 5 1/4 inch out the front. If you are using drawers in the front under your cooktop, they will need to be reduced depth by 5 inches.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just finished installing our new downdraft fan along with new KitchenAid gas cooktop. Everything about the transaction has been great; timely shipping, helpful and courteous delivery team, good looking fan fit and finish. Clearly designed to work well with a gas cooktop without distrupting the flame, yet very effective at removing steam and odor.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After waiting for this item to be in stock, we received it. When this downdraft was installed by professionals, it does not work properly. It shuts off (both fan and up/down mechanism) and smells like fire. We had to turn the breaker off as this is on it's own designated breaker. Sorry to say that we will be calling service before we are able to use it; very disappointing.

I have a stove in the island. Researched Kitchenaid extensively to ensure this would work in my situation. I like the height of this compared to other brands. But, altho it states reversible it still has a "bumped" out part that means it cannot install close to the appliance, like it would behind a cooktop. This isn't disclosed in the owners manual, as my contractor/installer told me. In any event it shows evidence of a powerful suction but honestly I wasted my money buying this. It's 6" away and would have been more effective if it were closer.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If I had to do this over again, I never would have gotten a down draft system. The first problem is that this will not fit against the back of the stove, because of the motor. It is apparently designed to go under a cooktop. The motor is not reversible so there is now a gap between the stove and the downdraft vent. Don't put your stove in the island. If you do get a hood above the range.
