Lego ART still can't recapture its brilliance

This set is fine, but the subject doesn't really benefit from a Lego makeover. Let me explain: Lego have at least 5 art sets at this point. The first (van Gogh's Starry Night) is outstanding and left me with a new appreciation for the original picture, as well as a wonderful display piece. The second (Hokusai's Great Wave) is OK: the depth was gone and the intricacy of the original doesn't really show up in the model, but it's also not the easiest picture to translate into a set. The next (da Vinci's Mona Lisa) would only get one star from me: all the subtlety of the smile is rendered on a single brick - how does that make sense? The fourth (van Gogh's Sunflowers) has some depth but a very boring subject. This set is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. It's decidedly better than the last few sets, combining some of the best aspects of the Hokusai building techniques with a few of the good parts of Starry Night. However, as many have noted, it's fiddly to build and doesn't work as a picture until you're at least 2 meters away. This makes the build a bit tedious, and the end result is fine as a display but doesn't add to my enjoyment of the original (or the model, for that matter). I think Lego needs to play to their strengths - the ability to incorporate depth and color - and pick a piece that really benefits from that.

Beautiful

At the age of 60, I have never completed a Lego set or helped my children over the years. I always thought it was too difficult. When I saw that this set was coming out, I knew that I must get it. I have been to Monet's house and seen then painting in person. I was amazed at how easy the directions were to follow and how quick it came together. I had it completed in about 12-14 hours. It is a beautiful and strudy set. All that's left is to find a place to hang it. I'm now hooked on Legos and can't wait to do my next set.

It’s better than I expected. Looks great in my office. I get a lot of compliments, they don’t believe its Legos.

Stunning

I’d never built a LEGO set before, but when I saw this one, I had to have it. Some of the colors in the instruction booklet are very similar, which made it tricky at times to tell pieces apart. However, I was able to rely on the image on the box to figure things out.
I appreciated how each layer is built to mimic the way paint is applied to create depth. The clever use of pieces—katanas, frogs, butterflies—adds a sense of movement and texture, like real brushstrokes. The color interpretation is also really fun and unique.
LEGO really outdid themselves with this set. The finished piece is absolutely stunning!

I have usually enjoyed Lego art builds, but this one was just okay for me. It looks great when you finish but was not the most enjoyable build.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

75 years old

My 75 year hands and eyes didn’t have any problem with the pieces being too small or some of the colors being too similar. I can’t deny that the build is tedious at times, but the end result is beautiful. If you find the final product unstable, then you’ve done something wrong. All in all it’s a good set. Certainly not like building a modular building or a sports car, but fun nonetheless.

Nice looking

I liked building this set although it became somewhat tedious at certain points. The finished set looks really nice.
I like to use the printed directions. I find that a much faster way to build. The problem I had was the colors in the printed directions are not accurate. I had to use Lego Builder in many cases just to get the colors right. The problem was exacerbated because the printed instructions do not match the steps in Lego Builder in many cases making it very hard to find just what I was looking for.
