I’d never built a LEGO set before, but when I saw this one, I had to have it. Some of the colors in the instruction booklet are very similar, which made it tricky at times to tell pieces apart. However, I was able to rely on the image on the box to figure things out.
I appreciated how each layer is built to mimic the way paint is applied to create depth. The clever use of pieces—katanas, frogs, butterflies—adds a sense of movement and texture, like real brushstrokes. The color interpretation is also really fun and unique.
LEGO really outdid themselves with this set. The finished piece is absolutely stunning!

The texture, colors, and attention to detail is fantastic. The finished build is beautiful! There were a few times during this build that were a little challenging, (because the colors are printed a little off on the instructions). It was a challenge to decipher the green rods at certain steps which added another level of interest to this build.
The box was a great reference tool to help when needed. :-)
My set arrived complete and earlier than expected. This is my 4th Art set and is a new favorite! I like and appreciate that each set that I own from the 'LEGO Art' set has a different texture quality and has been created to refect the art and each artist respectfully.

I love this build! Monet is my favorite impressionist artist I so bought this the minute I saw it was available. Water Lilies please! Or one of his Cathedral at Rouen would look great as a LEGO set. There could be so much depth and dimension.
My only beef isn't with the build but with the packaging. LEGO has been telling everyone for years that they would soon change the packaging to something more eco-friendly. In all years I've been buying LEGO builds I've gotten exactly ONE bag of pieces that wasn't the normal plastic. How much longer do you need to make that change-over?

The many different pastel pieces were sometimes hard to differentiate in the book - but other than that, this build - this set, is perfect! I have it proudly displayed in my entry!

Lego ART still can't recapture its brilliance

This set is fine, but the subject doesn't really benefit from a Lego makeover. Let me explain: Lego have at least 5 art sets at this point. The first (van Gogh's Starry Night) is outstanding and left me with a new appreciation for the original picture, as well as a wonderful display piece. The second (Hokusai's Great Wave) is OK: the depth was gone and the intricacy of the original doesn't really show up in the model, but it's also not the easiest picture to translate into a set. The next (da Vinci's Mona Lisa) would only get one star from me: all the subtlety of the smile is rendered on a single brick - how does that make sense? The fourth (van Gogh's Sunflowers) has some depth but a very boring subject. This set is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. It's decidedly better than the last few sets, combining some of the best aspects of the Hokusai building techniques with a few of the good parts of Starry Night. However, as many have noted, it's fiddly to build and doesn't work as a picture until you're at least 2 meters away. This makes the build a bit tedious, and the end result is fine as a display but doesn't add to my enjoyment of the original (or the model, for that matter). I think Lego needs to play to their strengths - the ability to incorporate depth and color - and pick a piece that really benefits from that.

This was a fun build that I actually found relaxing to put together. The aesthetic is very appealing and looks great among other art build sets on my gallery wall. I look forward to more masterpieces developed for Lego.
