not the best first experience with this software

Let me set the table by letting you know that I'm not an accountant though I've done my taxes for a number of years
I used the software this year for 4 different returns. For the 2 fairly basic Federal returns with NJ state returns was just fine.
For an Irrevocable Trust (doing myself for the first time) it seemed a little complex and required me reading a number of IRS instructions even though I was only providing information from one brokerage account. It would not allow me to efile but did not provide a valid reason. I did contact support but they were unable to shed any light on the reason. For the final Fed return and NJ state return i had to input information from the K! created with the prior 1041 return. The federal was fine as I double checked it with turbo tax but I could not get the NJ 1040 to tie out. It seems like turbo tax is probably better for my situation as it provides more guidance for the non experts. I ended up buying the turbo tax software to file this 1040 and nj 1040

Overall good product, but some of the tips and guidance are ambiguous and do not clarify enough. It also imported the wrong AGI total from the previous year when it came time to verify my identity before filing. The most obvious bug involved the Trump accounts. My kids did not qualify, but it still gave me the option to elect to open accounts. Importing W-2s also created errors that I was not able to work around, so I needed to manually enter the information.

The business software didn’t work but the premium did. But that wasn’t too bad. There seemed to be less things that i thought normally transferred from year to year. There were questions that were asked that didn’t have explanations for on the side bar that I’m use to for explanations. Some explanations seem thin. Pasty I think some of the last review comments didn’t seem to match what my return had. Kinda made me wonder if the software was vetted enough. I hope this was not the result of adding AI programming haphazardly without quality checks. I’ll probably use it next year because I e used the software so long.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming
