I clicked HELP and was taken to several FAQ pages that have to do with the software and some that answer questions about filing taxes. My question was not addressed and I was not given the opportunity to ask my question. Otherwise, the software is great.
I have been using H&R Block tax software for many years and it is the best product out there. I tried TurboTax one year - what a disappointment. I finished doing my federal taxes and then they wanted me to pay them again to do my state taxes. That was the only year I ever tried anything but H&R Block. Save yourself the hassle, just use H&R Block and ignore the others.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Every time I did an update, my computer bogged down and had issues. Finally, when I was ready to file my taxes, I had an odd amount in the line for my direct-deposit refund. I could not make a change to it and have no idea where it came from. In order to finish filing, I had to choose to receive a check! I felt like at each step, the software was needing tweaking and it hadn't been done. I know the new tax laws are part of the problem but please continue to work on your software! It was only time-consuming in that it wasn't working properly with Windows 7.
I bought the business version as we have a PLLC, or so I thought. While I wish that the business software was more automated it did an excellent job preparing my taxes. When it came time to file the software pushed an error about needing an additional partner. To make a long story short, the state of Texas allows veterans to register a PLLC for free. There was only one member but we still received the registration paperwork. (Horn Blast!!) If it wasn't for the error check, this would have never come out.
The base product (Premium) is great. But I picked the Premium+Business during purchase selection. Turns out I didn't need "Business"; Premium does Schedule C pretty well already.
I have used H&R Block software for years. I love it because it is straightforward. But this year there were a few changes in features which made it a little time consuming.
