I have been a regular TurboTax user and finally decided to make the switch to HRB and was mostly satisfied with the change. I liked the simple interview style and that the forms were always visible and easy to access. However, the number one issue/disappointment was that the displayed “tax owed” bottom line would update/change several minutes after making inputs, with no explanation or evidence of why/when it updated! This made it difficult/impossible to evaluate “what if” scenarios (e.g. increasing 401K contribution to lower tax owed). There were several other “nits” where HRB was different, and more “clunky” (I.e. navigating directly to a part of the interview) but most were not too bad. I did enjoy the lower cost of HRB over TT and filing was very easy. I was hoping I could say farewell to TT for good, but honestly not sure what I will do next year!
Just make sure you have the documentation needed - the software provides you a list. easy to follow and has clear explanations if you are unsure. You don't need to have a tax or finance background. The program makes sure that the return was completed correctly and the return maximized. It is always up to date wit the current TAX Laws.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
