Makes it possible to work through increasing complex tax filing. I don't see how a small business operator could be aware of all the increasing details, complications and requirements. How would one even know what would be required much less how to prepare it correctly. I am dependent on this software and H&R Block software gives me the confidence I am filing correctly.

I have used this software for many years and it is always a hassle to get immediate assistance when there is a glitch, and there always is. In my opinion it might be fine if you have only your income and bank account to work with, but if you have other investments and the 1099s are even the slightest bit different from the program you will have to get Block's help. Believe me, in reality that is most difficult. Unless you are truly savvy about the lingo and the process before using the program it might throw you for a loop. I truly don't want to pay to do my taxes at an office because the costs there are really expensive. These costs are much better, however be aware that getting a human to help you is most frustrating and time consuming. I do like the feature that tallies up either a refund or what you might owe as you continue through the program. It takes due diligence and time to get accustomed to the program as there is so much verbiage in our tax system, but with even my minimal tax savvy I was able to finish. I wish our officials would simplify this very old, difficult system and make it easier for folks to understand.

This use to be a great software. Now when I have to file state taxes the software does not tell me before I buy it that it doesn't support my state. Very frustrating. Then it is much more difficult to use. I've been using it for 20 years and I'm so disappointed.
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easier and less expensive than Turbo Tax

Software worked great and cost about 60% the price of similar Turbo Tax. Easy to use and even has a no cost audit helper which is an extra charge on TB. Very pleased with H&R so far.

Needs instructions to help understanding

I liked the software download better than the online version. The household goods donation software was pretty complete and much faster to use and you could see the actual forms. I like to understand why I have to fill out certain forms and why the calculations are done the way they are. Brief explanation of the reasons for each form would enhance the experience for me.
Pros: Maximizes refund
