I've purchased this software for few years without problem. But the business side didn't work this year. I talked to several customer people, none of them knew anything about the software. At the end, I had to prepare my business tax return by hand.
I find it diffiicult to directly input data. Also the 1040 form is a bunch of working forms and not the 1040. The data is all there but finding it is sometimes difficult. The 1041 display is much better. I also have problems with completeing the foreign tax form (1116). With trusts the progaram assumes that a K1 is needed. This leads to excess forms and in some cases errors for a form that was not required. With business I even got a form C which was not needed and since it was not filled out the review gave me errors. In general I find the software is good and I will continue to use it.
when I purchased the notes indicated that you needed windows 10 or 11, after installing and trying to get it to run and spending time with support it was determined that Business would not run on windows 11 which I had just installed on my computer! had to file on paper by hand because way too complicated to revert back to windows 10......won't buy Business again
The Block Premium / Business software version comes in two separate applications. The Premium (for individual returns) is ok. Interview questions sometimes unclear but after using it for several years one begins to understand the quirks. Its certainly useable but probably not any better than the competition. I started using it ~20 years ago when it was Taxcut and a market leader. Since getting taken over by HRBlock it has been maintained but not improved upon. On the other hand, using the Business app one perpetually feels like you're working with beta version software. Forms and interviews are late to be downloaded, forms don’t fill in properly, online assistance is worthless; bug reporting and escalations fall into a black hole. I’ve used the Business for my small s-corp for 5 years, again because I know the work-arounds for my needs. But the fact that the each release seems to plateau at the same, ‘sort of works good enough’ level means I cannot recommend this app to any new user unless they enjoy trying to figure out the logic used in its poor design in order to use it.
