I’ve used H & R Block tax software for years but. . . This year following a Federal update, all my current and previous saved files were deleted from my computer. The file folder is there but all contents are gone! Not sure if I’ll use H&R Block next year. My situation has been escalated to a team in the hopes that they can unravel and help my situation.

The personal software is fine - I've been using it for years. But the business software is painful - I am so glad this was my last year filing business taxes. Unlike the personal software ,I have found it nearly impossible to load last year's business return if there have been any changes on my computer. So many years, including the last two, I have had to start over from scratch, which is a real problem for maintaining capital equipment records. But beyond that, for the last two years I spent hours discovering how to provide partner information - the interview is no help for that fundamental task.

HR Block software doesn't guide the user as well as Turbo Tax, which was acceptable due to the much lower price in previousyears. Unfortunately Block increase the price substantially without making the software more user friendly. It is best to have a good working knowledge of tax law before purchasing this software. I was disappointed in not having a free electronic submission of the state tax return, especially with the price being very close to Turbo Tax

I have no trouble using the software for my small corporate business. The flow is logical and easy to follow, reducing errors. I do have trouble finding my saved tax return and would like that issue resolved to earn another star. There is also a problem opening the program from year to year so that I have had to start fresh each year for the past 6 years. The personal returns save in the HR Block folder and easily import into the new year's program. Not so for the Business portion.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
Cons: Hard to import documents

I cannot recommend this product for filing an estate return. The user interface is really bad. The interview section is .mostly AWOL, requiring the user to type data directly into many forms. There is no way to override some locked fields found on some forms like 1041 T.
Cons: Hard to prepare
