This is a good product for someone who has tax knowledge. It would be good to have an (optional) deep interview interface, for someone who has very limited knowledge. The program works well, but hides a lot of background processing, so either you can have faith that the calculations are correct, or you may use the buttons to show some of the behind-the-scenes activities.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare

Could not have been easier

This is the third year for us using this program. In retirement, our tax filing is much simpler to complete than in the many years when we were employed. This basic program is easy to use with the necessary prompts logically given.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast

Program was great and met all my needs. Reaso for only 3 stars was i had prblems reading the text with my old eyes. Please don't make it pretty. Please make it readable. BLACK on white would be my preference.

The H&R Block Basic Software was easy to use, easy to understand, and affordably priced. I will definitely use this software again. My only criticism is the PDF file is not formatted correctly, so when I print my return the pages aren't printing properly; fortunately, I e-filed so I hope the PDF will get fixed. I also cannot get last year's PDF file at all...
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents

Failed me this year....

I have been using this software for many years and have always loved it. This year we had to allocate APTC from a 1095 and the software doesn't help with that at all - just tells you to fill the form out on your own. It was very confusing. We had two of the returns rejected (one of them three times) because we filled that form out wrong, even though their audit thing said the returns had no issues. They counted those rejections against my five free filings, so to file taxes for us and my adult daughters that we share a marketplace health insurance plan with, we ended up having to pay for two of the filings. I will use it in the future, but only because we won't have to allocate again. If you have to allocate APTC do NOT use H&R Block software.....

Very easy to use. I have used H&R Block software to do my taxes for the past 7 years and find it to be accurate and very easy to use. It is comprehensive to ensure i am covering all of my areas of taxation and deductions. The e-file process is simple and I love that it is free.

Wrong AGI imported from previous return

The entire return process was easy, but the program imported an incorrect figure for the 2018 AGI from last years’ return. Double check with the IRS, before you submit the return. (The 2018 return AGI was correct, and agreed with the IRS records.)
