I have been using H&R Block income tax software for many years and have never had a problem with the IRS. The software is easy to use and painlessly takes you through the tax filing process in small steps. The software does the math and checks your tax return for omissions and errors before you can electronically send it to the IRS. I have recommended this tax software to friends and family who needlessly paid accountants to file their taxes. My only gripe with the H&R Block software is that it takes you through the tedious process of itemizing deductions before telling you that that you would be better off taking the standard deduction. I have now learned to skip over the itemization process and go directly to the standard deduction, but some new users of the software may not know this is possible. The software should insert a screen, before the itemization of deductions begins, informing users how to skip that step if it is not needed.

I have been using H&R since the days of Tax Cut when you had to load what seemed like a dozen 3 1/2 inch disks. It was not really user friendly. H&R Block has improved every year and does most of the thinking for you. Thanks!!

Very disappointed in my experience with this software this year. I have used it in the past without difficulty. However, this year my return was nearly finalized when I tried to open the file again in order to submit and the file would not open indicating that the file header block was not located. All of my work was gone. I found it difficult to find any useful information about how to recover the data. An update to the software was a suggested solution in the error message but everything was up to date. Attempted several different ways to recover the data but had no success and got to completely redo my return. I submitted it right away that evening because I no longer trust your software to retain my information.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This was a nightmare

I started the federal tax return and that was fairly easy except you’ve done these taxes for years in-house and nothing could be downloaded from there. Then I finally get finished with the federal return and it says I have to buy the state return why on earth wouldn’t those be together. Then I could never get into the state return. In addition I had to file it separate and when I did that It said it would send me an email that my taxes have been filed in on there would be a button where I could pay my taxes there was no nothing to be found where I could pay my taxes so now I’ve completed my federal return and haven’t paid my taxes. I am extremely upset!
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
