The program provides details and walks you through each step of the process. It takes a bit of time to input your data but after that, year after year, your data is automatically populated, saving time. I’ve never had any problem with inputting data or unable to successfully complete a return. With all the guided questions, I feel that I get the best return possible.

I've happily used H&R Block Basic for many years. When itemized deductions as a home owner and operated a personal, part-time business it worked great! And now that I take the standard deduction, it makes filing taxes fast and easy!

Until this tax season have rated your tax program at the highest 5-star level. This year was a mess. It was easy to use, and I was satisfied with the return. However, when I got near the end of the process it suddenly added something I did not OK. It doubled my return. I could not find out why. After much trouble I found that the package had added another refund based on my age...I guess. My wife and I had both received the two special refunds that the U.S. Govt. had approved. I had not get the third one that was designed for some taxpayers. I had not asked for the return but the package added it anyway. I filed online and I waited and waited for my return. Finally after a couple of months I got a notice that the IRS had audited my return and refigured the amount I was due. I was right back to what I had figured in the first place. Why the program added the extra deduction, I do not know. I got the amount that I had figured in the first place. Now I am on record as trying to ask for money I did not qualify for. Will I now be audited on all tax returns in the future? I should have been asked if I wanted the deduction and not had it added by H.& R. Block. All I ever wanted was my legal return and I ended up looking like a tax cheat.

Easy to use, in either the sequential walk-thru mode, or the cigar-box mode (entering documents from the usual mixed-up pile). Basic actually can handle a very complete list of forms and tax situations. It is entirely appropriate for simple to very complex taxation for ordinary families.
