First time bump in the road. I changed filing status this year and there seemed to be a glitch carrying over data from last year. The AGI was wrong, plus the Pin was lost. Everything else checked out fine. Due to the error the IRS kept rejecting my return. That data from last year is only used for electronic filing for identification purposes. Mail in returns don’t need it. I mailed my return I only have a very small refund in no rush to get it.
Taxes are easy with H&R Block software! For a fraction of the cost of having your taxes done by a professional, you can do your own taxes. It's only a small amount of extra work, and you get great guidance in simple steps. E-filing is free, and your refund (if you're getting one) can be direct deposited into your bank account, usually in a couple of weeks. And you don't need an appointment!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
The software works well and does as intended. Purchase allows you to electronically file several returns (I think 5) so it is good for a household with adult kids. It allows you to download financial info directly which is very easy and good. I would be happier if it had a better help menu. I needed to add an IRS security code and passed over the input during the interview. The help menu was NO help. I had to google it which took me directly to the answer and the fix. Why not the help menu?
I went through the whole process (with a fairly simple return) and e-filed on February 27, 2023. It was rejected, and the rejection report reason given was "a problem with our e-file process." The suggested solution was to wait for a March 2 update then e-file again. I updated the software as instructed and e-filed again. This time my "federal return was successfully transmitted." But for the next several days when I checked the IRS status, it would always say "status pending."
I spoke to a very helpful gentleman in the support staff who created a case for my situation and elevated the problem. Then on March 10th I got an email from Block saying the IRS had rejected my e-file again and to follow instructions under the status check. I did that and the resulting rejection report said my return was "rejected because of a problem with our e-file process." I am instructed to wait for yet another update and make the attempt again!
Not only have there been bugs in the H&R Block e-file process, but the status-checking logic also needs work. My March 2 refiling was obviously not successfully transmitted.
I've used H&R Block for many years, but this episode has really diminished my confidence in their product. Hopefully most other people won't run into this problem.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast
I have been using this for years, and would recommend this to anyone. The basic program provides enough, and includes business, stock trades etc. Great value!
