Bad enough experience that I'm switching next year

I've been using H&R Block's software since it was TaxCut. It's an automatic every year. My experience was so bad this year that I'm switching next tax season. First, I only qualified for the standard deduction, but H&R wouldn't let me finish my return because it wanted my "average mortgage balance for the year." Not something it asked for during the return, not something given to me by the bank, and not something that's necessary because my mortgage interest plays no part with the standard deduction. I had to manually delete the previous mortgage entries. But the worst part was when it was time to e-file I couldn't get a successful transfer. I kept getting "bad gateway" messages. Internet access was fine - everything worked except H&R. I made six attempts - all of them apparently unsuccessful according to H&R - but I eventually got an email saying my return was successful, then one saying it was accepted. The software itself still thinks I haven't filed it, so I can't "Check Status." What a high-stress disaster.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used HR block for about 10 years. I have never had this problem before. the server went fown the night before taxes were due. this created a lo of unneccesary anxiety for us when we were prepaiting our taxes. I was told to fule manually. I buy the ptogram so i dont have to file manually....Very dissapointed.
Pros: Easy to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Tax prep is NOT easy, fun, and the user is responsible for the results, such as maximizing, but the software makes it possible for the user to achieve the goal. Paying someone to do your taxes means only that they will do only the best possible with what YOU TELL THEM. So just do it yourself.

On the 14th and 15th the eFile servers were down and there was only a useless AI bot to try and communicate with. HRBlock left their customers scrambling on 3rd party forums to try and figure out why the software was failing to efile. HRBlock's server outage on the 14th and 15th with little to no communcation is hilariously bad. How are there not support reps 24-hours per day during tax season when the software doesn't work?
As far as preparation goes, the software does not seem to provide for entry of amortized assets on Schedule E and it does not import it properly from TurboTax. I'll probably go back to TurboTax. Very disappointed in the first year I tried HRBlock. I guess that's why it's cheaper.
