I have been buying the H&R basic software for many years now and find it the best for my needs as I only use the standard deductions and as a Texas resident there's no state taxes.

One problem I found was that of how to declare income from publishing royalties from Amazon. The app wanted to go to rentals. It should have, despite the IRS, that it take the user directly to book publishing royalities.

I used this program to do my taxes and my daughter's taxes. (Both were Federal only.)
Hers were pretty simple, and everything went fine. Mine were a lot more complicated, and when I tried to file electronically, I got a note that said something like "Gateway failure. Cannot submit."
I tried multiple times, always with the same failure message. I ended up just printing it all and taking it to the post office. It was very disappointing.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
