I have been using H&R Block tax software for years. Easy to use and straight forward. A shock this year Social Security worksheet was actually available by 1 Jan 2025. The last few years it has not been ready by the first tax day for the IRS even though all other software had their ready by 1 Jan. Good going H&R, keep it up.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming

I bought but have used on my taxes yet. It imported my son’s return from last year and it worked fine. When I do mine I will see if the issue I reported Lin 2024 which caused me to not be able to correctly iimport the data from 2023 has been fixed. I also did not like the price increase especially when I only buy it out of habit and I can file for free elsewhere.

I just have a simple return, retirement income, itemized deductions. But I like the way the software leads me through the process. Electronic filing is a breeze. My advice to others is to carefully read the screens. I also recommend paying for the downloadable product because of the retention of the data file and enhanced ease of preparing the subsequent year return.

I switched from TurboTax which I have been using for over 10 years. I like the ease of use of this product and the different features it offers over others. It wasn’t intuitively clear how to password protect my return, but I got there.
My main issue is that the software wants to take you through all of the itemized deduction screens before it gives you the option of taking the standard deduction. With the standard deduction as beefy as it is, most will not even come close to beating it by itemizing.
