The BASIC version should take care of most users' needs. The interview process is fairly straight forward. If you don't expect to itemize, this is an option to consider. Anyone with basic math skills should be able to complete & submit their return easily. No need to go to a pro. I've been using this for decades.

I bought this in December, and I have been filling it in as 1099s filtered in. The excellent navigation makes it easy to do it this way. When the final 1099 arrived last week, I was able to add it immediately, and filed the next day. Overall, a great product.

I have bought this in previous years/ I'm always glad I do even though my return is not complicated.
This year you changed the discussion of meeting RMD. I had withdrawn nearly 3 times as much as required, but program insisted I owed almost a 3000 penalty. I looked at the form and saw the problem, but couldn't enter data in the form. It took multiple tries to fix the problem. At final review, it raised a flag and allowed me to correct the form. I recommend either returning to the old discussion or revising the new discussion to clarify the questions. My answers put RMD in "a" and withdrawal in "b" causing the inevitable math problem and "penalty."

I've used H&R Block Basic every year since 2014. That was year that I switched from TurboTax because they removed important forms from their Basic package. I've become familiar with some of the quirks of H&R Block package. The final audit typically finds one or two inconsistencies that the program itself created. There are a few "upsell" triggers that you must pass through at least once. The final result is as accurate as the data entered, and H&R Block's tax return e-file process is clean. I will continue as a fan and user.
