I've been using H&R for my tax returns for over 10 years now, and can state that even the Basic version does provide all the forms I need as an expat, i.e. 2555, 1116, and this year 8938. Learning curve was a bit steep at the beginning, and you will need to know your forms.
The reason for giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that a bug in calculating global gross income from all sources prevented the use of summary entry/ies on form 8949 (had to enter them as individual sales), and (artificial?) limits on form 8938 prevented e-filing and thus print and mail paper return (max 5 copies allowed, which you use up the moment you and your spouse have separate accounts at one broker; also European IBAN accounts have can more letters/digits that the software allows). Annoying, but work-around possible.

Might not be backward compatable with older macOS

Fast and easy to use. Disappointed that it kept saying that “H&R Block is optimized for macOS 12 Monterey or higher”. I have an older computer that Cant run that, but everything still seemed to work fine when I clicked continue. I would like it if you had an on-line version, or could run from an I-pad app instead of having to use a desktop or laptop.

SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT

I entered my overseas pension information in the Retirement Income section on form 1099-R, but, of course this overseas payer did not have a TIN so I left that field blank. During the accuracy check this threw up a red flag so as I had a plane to catch I just deleted the form and re-ran the accuracy check - the flag had disappeared so I filed the form and went to the airport. During my trip I realized my mistake so on my return I followed the instructions to file an amended return on form 1099-X with the overseas pension income entered manually under other retirement income and refiled without issue. However your software offers no solutions that I could find for entering and filing an amended State Return (North Carolina), so I had to print the amended return and file by mail. This was very inconvenient and it would help if you could include a process for filing amended State returns electronically.
