Doing the current year taxes was okay. It was awkward to work in a data-driven approach instead of an interview-driven approach, but that was my choice. There were times when I felt it could have been more helpful in suggesting previous year's info as a guide to entering this year's info, even ioof a full transfer wasn't possible. The complete disaster came when I got to working on next year's estimated tax. Pretty much all the software offered was blank forms. Most, perhaps all, of the data is typically derived from the current year data, with modifications to reflect anticipated changes. Instead of helping, the software basically said "you're on your own, sucker," and left me to shuffle through the return I had just completed in the same software package to find numbers that were described slightly differently. A miserable experience.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought H&R Basic 2024 software in January 2025. I have bought the same software now for the past dozen years, and I have always liked it. This year, I realized that my taxes were so simple, that I did not need the features the program provides. The program itself has probably never been better; it is my circumstances that have changed. I had no federal taxes withheld, I owed no tax, and I received no refund. If there were a simpler and cheaper version of the software, I would buy that. It is difficult for me to rate this software considering my situation.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!
