Kids aren’t dumb

To the criticism of these blatantly bad sets, I keep hearing; “bUt ItS fOr KiDs”. Kids who actually like Star Wars wouldn’t want this stuff. (If they could even afford it) For this set in particular, the entire back of the ship is missing. I don’t know how many actual kids they tested this with, but when swooshing around a star fighter, the back and side is what you see most. Instead of cool looking engines, you see a red blob. This is of course to accommodate the ‘smart’ brick, which can’t even make accurate sounds. Any kid with a standard imagination can make more accurate sounds with their own mouth. (While only paying a fraction of the price for a decent looking play-set back in the day).
As a once kid fan of Lego myself, I would rather have an accurate and cool looking model to play with and re-build in my own way than this static ugly piece of bantha poodoo

Unimaginative, overpriced, and the worst mistake in Lego Star Wars since, well, just last year. You gotta do better Lego.

This exact same gimmick was somehow done better 40 years ago with Light and Sound. Make of that what you will.

Not happy at all with this purchase. Such a small build for a lot of money. These voices from all the sets I purchased are in another language. This is not the way.

Do not trust the obvious fake over the top 5 star reviews. They are not genuine and anyone with a brain would be able to tell. The design looks bad ESPECIALLY when you look from the back. The smart brick sounds bad and its not worth it. This product line will flop. Lego is overselling these and they are failing. Avoid. They are botting 5 star reviews.

Purchased for myself because I wanted to experience the good (and bad) of the smart brick, and it's functions. As an adult fan of Lego, there are sets for my taste and this is simply not one of them. If I have a family one day I have no doubt my kid's will enjoy playing around with the Lego Smart Brick if it lasts that long... if not, I'm sure the Lego Mario, Luigi, and Peach will still be turning on just fine. :p

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was super easy to put together and the addition of the smart brick takes it to the next level! Even with picking it up to activate it feels sturdy. We loved this one and so glad to add it to our Star Wars set.

On the right track

I love the concept of the smart brick and I think Lego is headed in the right direction, but the execution here is lackluster. My hope is Lego will at some point enable us to design our own features via the app or with next gen bricks/tags. It's hard to imagine the toy company that brought out my most creative self as a kid and gave us MindStorms would make a new
technology so restrictive. It also seems counterintuitive to me to make such a rudimentary design targeted to juveniles and launching it via a 49 year old movie.
The other more traditional parts are of a similar quality to what Id expect from Lego. But the bottom line, after nearly a lifetime of playing Star Wars, NOBODY makes better laser sounds than me. Pew! Pew!
