Toothbrushing is fine but........

The toothbrush appears to do its basic job well, but there are other issues. Recharging it requires putting in a separate glass which is plugged into the wall. It takes two days t o recharge and it lasts for five days until it has to be recharged again. It is a nuisance. Second, it is very noisy. I cannot hear the telephone ring if I am using it.

Impressive new tech!

I was lucky enough to receive this product for free in exchange for my unbiased review.
I have been using a Sonicare electric toothbrush for over 8 years now and have loved it. This toothbrush, however, blows my old one out of the water. At first, I thought that there wouldn`t be anything a newer toothbrush could offer that I wasn`t already getting from my old Sonicare. I was wrong.
This product comes with the ability to connect via Bluetooth to the app on your phone, which at first sounded like it would be more of a hindrance than an asset. I also thought it made the product seem pretentious. The handle also has the ability to recognize the type of brush head attached. All of this new technology made me worry that it would be wasting a lot of my time and probably be glitchy. But I had no such issues.
The product manual mentioned some models have a USB charging cable on the travel case, which would be nice, but apparently, this model does not include. The travel case itself is nice as it is sturdy and molded to protect your investment. My previous model Sonicare had a flimsy cloth case and once got accidentally turned on while I was traveling.
While the charging stand and glass look aesthetically pleasing, I would rather have just had a stand alone. I understand the glass has a separate purpose of using for rinsing, but for me, it is just one more thing I have to keep clean.
This product can use 4 different types of brush heads but came with only 3 types: Premium Plaque Control, Premium Gum Care, and Premium White. (The other one is the Tongue Care, which I would not use anyway, as I use a metal scraper and would not want to change.) So far I have used all 3 heads a least 3 times, and I am very impressed. My teeth have never felt cleaner, except when I actually have a dental hygienist clean them. I like that the app can tell me in real time, along with the vibrational changes on the handle itself, when I am using improper pressure or too much movement. I also like that the app shows you exactly where to brush and for how long. With my old Sonicare, I used to count to estimate how much time I had left in each quadrant. No more counting needed!
I also feel that it`s easy for me to tune out when I`m brushing my teeth and not pay attention to proper technique. With this handle and app combo, it keeps me awake and alert, which is a nice way to help me wake up in the mornings!
I do wish that there was an allotment for the actual bite side (top) of the teeth. I end up just trying to squeeze that in between the insides and outsides. I also know of some Sonicare models that include a method to sanitize the brush heads. With the expense that this model costs, I`m surprised that was not included. Overall, however, I think the handle is comfortable and well constructed, as I have come to expect from Sonicare. I like that there are 4 different cleaning modes on the handle (clean, White, gum health, and deep clean) along with 3 different intensities to choose from. When you first attach a brush head, these settings are chosen for you, but you can easily adjust them as you like.
Then there`s the app itself. It has all of the bells and whistles I could think of to help me get the most out of by brushing experience. It has reminders, real-time tracking of your brushing activity as well as the brush head performance, even links to purchase new brush heads when the time comes. You can customize the goals and the trouble areas in your mouth. I`m pretty impressed with the technology and as a self-proclaimed techie, that`s not easy to get out of me.
This is a first-rate product, but it does come with a first-rate price. And the brush heads have their own new technology with them so they are a bit pricey as well. However, if you have the money, this is a solid investment and your dentist will probably be proud.
Pros: sonicare quality, brush head recognition technology, connects to mobile app via bluetooth, tracking of brushing performance, tracking of brush head wear, customizability, sturdy travel case, fully interactive real-time brushing experience
Cons: no sterilizing method, no usb charger on case, no tracking of tops of teeth, unnecessary glass for charging, pricey

Great brush, when it works.

This is my second one, the first made it a week out of warranty and quit. The second more expensive one started coming on by itself and wouldn't turn off. It came on in my carry on luggage, and was not allowed to bring it threw TSA security, so I threw it away so I could get on my flight. I don't trust the reliability of this brush, and Philips can't help me since I had to dispose of it.

Hi there, Matthew. Thank you for bringing this to our attention here. It's unfortunate to hear that both of your Sonicare toothbrushes haven't performed as they should have. You mentioned that Philips can't assist you since you had to dispose of it. Have you been in touch with our product team to see if they can still do something for you? If not, please call them at 1-800-682-7664 (Monday – Saturday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM ET, Sunday: 9:00 am – 6:00 PM ET) or on social media on Facebook or @PhilipsCare on Twitter. Perhaps they are still able to assist you further.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Two brush heads fell apart!

Within 2 weeks most of the "plugs" of bristles on both mine & my husband's brush head fell out & replacements are nearly $30 for the smart heads! WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! It's also very slippery in your hand & I've nearly dropped it several times. I wish it had ribs or a different coating/finish to make gripping it more secure.
Pros: i like the reminder that i need to change quadrant, i like the reminder that i'm pushing too hard
Cons: replacement smart heads are way too expensive, 2 heads that came with it fell apart, smooth finish is too slippery in your hand., the travel case should have charger, less expensive model has charging travel case

Important Feedback

This is the best toothbrush i’ve ever had. It supplies the critical feedback I need to know how well i’m brushing and the problem areas I miss. The visual component as I brush is very helpful. After just 2 weeks of use, I got the best dental checkup ever: no plaque, very little tartar and healthy gums. I plan to make this toothbrush a Christmas gift for all my kids and grandkids.

I use to have the Sonicare E Series and I am so glad I purchased the DiamondClean Smart 9700. The difference is amazing my teeth! I use the Deep Clean setting. My teeth look whiter and I do not have the tarter buildup in the front bottom teeth.

Ive been a Philips Sonicare user for years. This new toothbrush, for me, has one major problem and that is even on the lowest setting when brushing saliva drips all over mouth and elsewhere. It's frustrating and annoying. Other than that its ok..

As a long-time Sonicare user, the bluetooth feature is too inflexible, and the online info gives no persuasive reasons for this.

The cleaning ability of this brush surpasses previous Sonicare versions, all of which I have used.
However, the only flexibility is to indicate which side of the mouth to brush first, with no indication when to move from front to back on each section.
Awaiting completion of two implants, thus missing two teeth, the sensor often doesn't recognize that area as being brushed.
My first toothbrush, used a bit less than 3 months, has been telling me to change for a couple of weeks, but the bristles show no wear since I am used to the amount of pressure needed for brushing with Sonicare brushes. Makes one wonder if selling more brushes is the reason.
I have to hold my phone in my left hand as I brush with my right hand, and I find this distracting and inconvenient.
Pros: very clean teeth
Cons: inflexible in bluetooth programming
