TurboTax has gotten to be a bloated pig with rot!

After using TurboTax for almost 30 years I am going to be looking for new tax software for 2025. The software keeps getting more bloated and difficult to use and this year it really messed me up costing several hours tryng to recreate stuff it deleted without warning.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Instrucitons to "Type in any number" is in error adn part of fraud to get $25.00 E-File Fee from customers. I am curious to see how may E-Files are chagesd and then rejected ...

After 10 years, I will seek alternative next year

My returns were rejected despite me using the walk me through everything option. My 1095-A information was not requested by the software. I do not know the ramifications of this yet but I am very dissatisfied. There are so many things the software prompts me for that I do not need or care about and something apparently so critical is bypassed.
For example, when I know I want to use the standard deduction, why do I have to answer I do not own my home to be able to proceed with my return without gathering and entering the unneeded information. The same thing with medical expenses. There should be an option asking do you want to check your itemizable deductions or proceed with the standard deduction? Instead it is assumed if I have such expenses that they will be enough to exceed the standard deduction.

Problems with Form 8962
on October 16, 2025

Entered form 1095-A information related to self-employed business however the insurance premium wouldn't show up correctly on the self-employed health insurance form unless I deleted and manually entered in Schedule C. Also wasn't able to get Form 8962 to generate after entering in all the information from form 1095-A. Federal tax return was rejected, now I have to paper file because of the issues above.

Faulty Follow-through
on October 16, 2025

The software walks me through the questions, provides guidance and prepares a good return but the follow-up, i.e., fixing a rejected return, is horrendous. It was a simple fix...I mistakenly entered last year's IPPIN instead of the current year so just needed to update that item. But, despite telling me why it was rejected and an email assuring me TurboTax would walk me through the fix, it did nothing to help me when I opened it up again, just showed the efiling status as "rejected' and told me where to go (IRS site) for a current IPPIN. Fine, I got the right IPPIN but TurboTax wouldn't take me to the place to update it, just re-filed with the same IPPIN error in it...not helpful.

TurboTax is not totally user frienly

When I tried to e-file my State Return, there was no place for me to enter the credit card information, and then it said my payment did not process--which I knew, because the system did not give me the opportunity to enter that information. I now have to print and mail my state return, which is a tremendous inconvenience.
Pros: I moved

TurboTax Literally Doesn't Function Anymore
on October 17, 2025

I have been using TurboTax for years, but will never do it again unless I get a lot of help following this review.
As soon as I was finished with my taxes, I clicked review and the program suddenly added a bunch of new forms. I had a specialist help me remove the forms and then it happened again so I deleted the forms myself, which is an involved process. Then both my state and federal returns were rejected and I'm unable to submit my taxes.

TURBO TAX - Tax year 2024 software review
on October 17, 2025

from VA, USA
Turbo Tax is an amazing, accurate, easy to use computer program for filing federal and state taxes. I've been a Turbo Tax customer / user for over 25 years!! There have been a few bugs along the way, but every year Turbo Tax gets better and better!! so my review for 2024 is 5 STARS!!!
However, I have to say, I'm very disappointed with Turbo Tax because I've been informed by Turbo Tax that my automatic purchase / renewal software for Tax Year 2025 will not work on a (my) computer using Windows 10!! So now I have to go buy an new computer because my current system does not meet the new system requirements to run Turbo Tax 2025. OUCH!!
