TurboTax in Decline

The current program is much worse than in the past. It doesn't remember or can't find some carry over data from past years. The state return asks me to come up with info calculated in the federal return. It fills in some info but not all. When I started a section in error then went back and deleted all the data, the program kept the form which I had to manually delete by going to forms.
Pros: My employment status changed this year

Turbotax Is Exceptional

Turbotax has always made it very quick and simple for me to submit all of my returns which are multiple state and complex. Couldn't be happier. I have saved a lot of money doing so.

Dont use for Rental Property

Software is painfully slow when entering or editing assets in the depreciation section for rental properties. It has gotten slower every year regardless if I use the online version or the desktop version. I'm going to have to switch to a better program for next year.

Poorly worded questions

Beware of the retirement questions in the interview process! They ask if you contributed anything to a retirement account. You think they are asking about the tax year you are working on and say "No." Then you will pay tax on 100% of your all your previous years' contributions, even if 90 % were made after taxes. It cost us many thousands of dollars.

Turbo Tax has lost its way

I have used TT for 35 years, but will look for other solutions next year as TT's attempt to push additional services and do away the helpful ledgers that showed a running entry of one's income and taxes due reminds me that TT has lost sight of the reason for its existence =-- which is to serve the customer. Since I have paid for the product, I believe I should be able to use the product without having to be pestered to buy something else when using the product. In addition, I found TT more difficult to use than anytime except for the first year I used it.
