TurboTax Home and Business Desktop NEEDS Work.

TurboTax needs to provide business income Profit and Loss for the last 5 years for each business before getting into any entries for taxes for the current year. The rule of thumb is that if there is a profit in 3 of 5 years, it is a business endeavor. TurboTax incorporates the data from last year, it should also incorporate the date from prior 4 to 5 years. It is shown at the end of the filing under Analytics, but it needs to be more granular.
Also, for Federal - you have to enter the IRS IP PIN for yourself and for any dependents that also filed and had an ID PIN issued. Instead of waiting until the tax return is rejected - why not provide that as a step in the "PERSONAL" and "OTHER TAX SITUATIONS" - and call it out as mandatory? This would have saved a lot of time and grief from having the return rejected twice with no "LINK TO" where the information is supposed to go.

TurboTax is going down hill

There is way to much "Upselling" going on in this product these days, not to mention the hidden costs of state filings, etc. Seems like the interface has gone down hill also, as most of the prompt windows couldn't be resized and I could barely hit the "continue" button to proceed. I've used this software for 10+ years, might be time for me to try a new one next year.

Long Time User, Still Happy

I have used TurboTax since at least 2004. I have found it to be an easy, reliable, well-designed, and quite usable system. In all those years, I have encountered a situation requiring me to seek outside assistance. That said, I considered using a TurboTax expert for help this year. In fact, I called a service rep who provided a good deal of information, which made me trust the program and provider even more. Next year, I may just have them handle the whole thing.
