Turbo Tax....The easy way

Very easy to use, they walk you through the process! They put the pleasure back in doing your taxes. I have used Turbo Tax for over 15 plus years and each year it gets better. I am 80 years old, and they are reliable, consistent, accurate, and so helpful through the entire process. Most of your time is spent on the Federal return and they carry over the necessary information automatically to the State return. I can finish the state return in 30 minutes because they fill it out based on my Federal return input. Would highly recommend Turbo Tax to anyone who wants to do their own taxes in a stress free, and actually have fun along the way. Can't wait to see how AI will make it even better!!

Good - Not great given long history

The application did not explain why it did not include my carryover donations. I don't know if it was not a bug in the software. Generally speaking, I'm not ever 100% certain the application is not making mistakes. This includes including worksheets that are not longer relevant.

TurboTax is Awful! Trying FreeTaxUSA in '26

Easily the worst software of the year, year after year. Slow, buggy, expensive, the worst UX/UI out there. And that's to say nothing of many years of shady lobbying for unnecessary regulatory capture.
Horrible product people working for evil senior leadership. What's not to like?

Not good for deceased tax handling

Not very good for doing taxes for deceased person. It does not seem to recognize throughout the process the person is deceased. It asks questions that are not relevant to a deceased person. The state was going to claim a credit that a deceased person shouldn't have, which would have led to an excess refund or maybe adjustments by the IRS. Handling of the Form 1310 for a personal representative was not done well. It didn't let you know until the last that you had to file paper and then at one point seemed like it was going to let me file online. It led to me getting charged for electronic filing and yet I wasn't able to file electronically.
Pros: I moved

Many things are not intuitive in your product. For example, closing costs on a real estate property have to be entered as an "asset"? How many people would know that? Many things like this I had to Google to try to understand what to do. The common sense thing for your product to do would be to ask for CLOSING COST info and then you CONVERT it to an "asset" if that's how it should be recorded. Other examples, you ask for various basis figures for real estate (1020 basis and 1030 basis I think). No explanation of what those are and no help. Please provide help and tell us how these things are calculated. Again, had to Google this because there is no guidance in Turbo Tax. Most people would have no idea what these are or how to compute them. One other example, "is this the cost basis you used in all past years" or something similar to that. You have all my previous years info, why are you asking me? Your program should go find it and then ask for verification if necessary. I wasn't about to dig through past returns to find out and just answered yes, as I suspect most people would do.
