Make sure you efile Fed & state together

I tried to efile a state return separate from a federal return so I could get the federal refund and then efile and pay the state. Apparently the software doesn't allow this although it accepted my $25 payment for the state efiling. The issue was I efiled 5 federal returns (filed returns for my sisters, me and my daughter) but only efiled 4 state returns. Since I filed 5 federal returns the software wouldn't allow the 5th state return to be filed separately because the flag in the software was already set to 5 federal efiles. I now have to try to get the $25 state efiling fee I paid that I wasnt allowed to use! I was on with tech support and they acknowledged that the software should have a warning.

Easy to use but watch out for hidden fees

chargin extra for e-file is really annoying. Maybe charge $5, but $25 per state is ridiculous.
And the software isn't perfect, I accidentally checked "Yes" for IRA and then went back and chagned it to no, but it still calculated my taxes as if I were giving max amount to IRA

Glitchy. It's not what it used to be

Glitchy. This software used to be much better. Too many tax situations are not provided for in the software.
Schedule K category Z business income bug: Program keeps warning that amount in Category Z is not on Statement A but there is no statement A. If there's supposed to be one, MAKE ONE! There is no dialog to create a statement A. You can bypass it in the dialog, but it gets trapped by every error check and ultimately won't allow you to file. I had to bypass it by overriding all these category Z entries. There was a support article about this but it was never resolved.
When you e-file, and it's rejected, and then you refile with the errors corrected, It takes you through paying your taxes by credit card AGAIN! I had to tell it I'm mailing a check the second time through.
It would be really nice if the program told me how many dollars I am short of being able to itemize deductions. It may help jog my memory for items I've forgotten or plan for the future with more donations, etc.
The import function is useless. It keeps saying the PDF is too large, never tells me the MAXIMUM SIZE it would accept. I tried multiple times to import the PDF my accountant sent. I kept trimming it down with Adobe Acrobat until I was just left with the bare naked 1040 form, and it wouldn't even import that. Completely worthless function.
There was no way to enter my Canadian government pension income. There is no way to enter multiple statements in the social security section.
Pros: My employment status changed this year

It gets better each year... I have been using since 1992 after shadowing my professional accountant for two years ... It was within a few dollars of his returns so I started doing my own and saving $500 (1992) dollars ... It has been so good I have recommended it many times ... I enrolled in the Advantage plan and get my Home & Business TurboTax in early December ... Try it and you will never go back to another tax preparation company again ... its that simple ...
