It is stressful every year since we used turbo tax. Misleading, cheating and tricking taxpayers. Add audit defense for $45.

Mostly automated, K-1 was hard.

Awesome! Did complicated things well, got all the standard forms on line. Easy to file, easy to file an extension. The Audit defense and phone help is great, too. My issue was setting up the K-1 corporate numbers from the LLC as they weren't included on the filing.
Pros: My employment status changed this year

some of the data from the federal should automatically transfer to state, but i ended up having to dig up all the info once again to enter into state forms.

I live off grid. The download took 3 tries and then lost the information when I took a brief break. I had not thought to save it for a few minutes. I had to start the whole process over again. Automatic back-up would have helped due to our sketching internet service.

Turbo Tax didn't prompt for some important items

Luckily I have an accounting/tax background. I found several areas where I was disappointed in Turbotax's prompts and thereby almost overpaid $1,000's. For instance, it did not prompt me to review my escrow statement to determine taxes and insurance paid out. It did not catch that the IRA form had the wrong coding. It should have asked if there was an exception- withdrawal after 59 1/2. It seems more difficult this year to navigate. For instance, I could not get back to the Cost of Goods sold by going to forms. I had to return to step by step.

poor experience with switching from step by step to forms. ira forms don't match the step by step guide if you change amounts or have to redo amounts. RSU gain/loss calculations are always wrong when imported from fidelity. Always have to redo cost basis entries from etrade/morgan stanley. Lost a version of my final taxes and had to redo some pages (ie property taxes) even though saved file. k1 schedules are not importable from proshares and don't match their forms either. There are extra boxes for line 20 that are not in turbo tax.

Overall the product is excellent and easy to navigate. I appreciate being able to toggle between the easy wizard and the forms. My only suggestion is to update the interface design on the desktop version (mac) to match the quality of the software. This would enhance the experience.
Pros: I moved
