On-again-off-again desktop software performance

I've been a TurboTax desktop software customer for well over a decade. The software has improved in some ways, and apparently gotten worse in others. Seems like every couple of years I can't start the process by transferring in info from my previous year's return, so I have to type in everything manually, none of my 1099 employment places are known in advance, etc. It sucks. I also couldn't get the software to import images of my W2s and 1099s, or retrieve that info from the web, so I had to type all of that info in my hand as well. It was a mostly horrible experience this year. The software also can ask random questions about corrections to returns during it's review at the end - stuff that was never asked while going through the process orignailly, and stuff that is not explained - why it's being asked, in what context the info is needed, etc. Sometimes it's a bit obscure, so the customer is left to do their own web search to determine what the info means and what it's relevancy might be. I'm considering switching to the on-line version of Turbo Tax next year, or switching to a competing service provider since my experience is on-again-off-again horrible. Two stars.

Easy to use but watch out for all the extra fees

Easy to use, but too many extra fees at every turn... $25 to e-file state? Then another $40 if you want the $25 deducted from your federal return? CRAZY! Charge one price & make it all inclusive!
