Turbotax is parasitic

Turbotax is largely responsible for the setup of our tax filing system because they lobby for our government to make taxes harder to file and to prevent the development of a comprehensive free direct file system. They make this harder for us so that they can siphon off every penny they can from our refunds to line the pockets of their executives, lobbyists, and our representatives. They should never be given any credit for their software working as it should, because in a functioning tax system there would be no reason for their parasitic business to exist.

TurboTax is good but has a few flaws

Overall, Turbotax is fine. I've been using it for over 25 years, and have used it to handle my increasingly complicated tax situations-- we own a small business, have kids, stocks, etc. I docked the review one star because there are too many times when I have to look at the forms instead of the EasyStep view because the program doesn't ask the right questions. Indeed, one year we got audited because TurboTax said we didn't have to report something and later owed over $4k in back taxes to the feds and the state. I am also grumpy that Intuit has turned off cut and paste in their software-- or at least the cut part. There are times when I want to check some math-- but then have to type in the numbers myself. There are times when the numbers just don't add up (my deductions this year didn't add up no matter how I tried). There are also times when I need to follow a URL but the link isn't active and I can't cut n paste the URL. Boo on both.

Looking for new software for 2025

Several times I would select to work on something and screen was blank and had to close out of program to make it work, never happen in past when allowed to get CD and not have to download everything, Web site indicated with purchase a free state but had to pay for state so either false or misleading advertisement
