TurboTax works great

TurboTax works very well. TurboTax checks for errors, and if there are errors, they are pointed out. When return is checked and found to have no errors it's done. Questions can be answered within TurboTax while using it. I have used TurboTax for over twenty years.

2024 TurboTax made changes that are hard to use!

Normally I would rate Turbo Tax Home & Business - Desktop with 5 stars. Some of this years changes were not easy to navigate - such as the page with squares to enter Interest, Dividends, etc. and the very deceptive "Refund Processing Fee" of $40! Hopefully, users will not fall for this charge when trying to pay for their state filing fee out of their refund! Clearer information is needed that if you pay by credit card, the "Refund Processing Fee" does not come up. If you click on the "Refund Processing Fee", it looks like you MUST pay the $40 fee plus any state filing fees. If users do not read the "Important Disclosures", they will be tricked into allowing Turbo Tax collect their refunds, deposit it into a "Green Dot Bank" account where they will deduct the fees, then send the balance to the user's designated bank! If someone does NOT have a checking account, this would be a way to get around "direct deposit", but the IRS will send out physical checks - so why would this additional charge even be needed!
Seeing the "State Return" was also a problem. I did not click on the "State Tax" until I finished my Federal Return. When I did click on the "State Tax" button, the program went directly to "missing information" and all I could see was the question - not the form. I could not see the full form until I finished answering the "missing information". Maybe this would have been different if I had chosen to open the "State Tax" in the beginning, but rather disturbing that I could not see the form as I was entering information! I hope Turbo Tax will review these sections and make them easier to use - and dump the "fancy charts"!
Pros: My employment status changed this year

Giving up - this is my last year using Turbo Tax
on April 4, 2025

Difficult to use, asks the same questions, makes me enter stuff from last years tax return, even though I imported last years TURBO TAX file, not real clear how the questions and things entered are actually being applied to my taxes.
When you open and close your tax file, it will require you to answer the same questions again to get to the part where you left off.
I've given it multiple years to get better, this is my last year, I only kept it because I used it the previous year and thought it would be faster to just use the same program. The frustration is not worth it.

Wrong PDF file name

Turbo tax is great and my calculations are good. The 1040 is correct with my name and address but the pdf file name is not. My family uses the same program, and it has my PDF file name the same as my nephews. Cray bright. Been using Turbo Tax at least 10 years and this is a first.

Expensive and hidden fees
on April 4, 2025

This keeps getting more and more expensive each year! Now I find out if you don't mail your return you have to pay a $40 "processing fee" to Turbo tax, even though it says "free federal filing"! Plus $25 to state file, plus $50 for the state tax forms. Additionally, I find out, I still had to mail documents in to the IRS for whatever reason, so I could have just mailed the whole thing in the first place! They don't tell you this until after they collect the money though! This is ridiculous! After 25 years of putting up with increasing prices and a mediocre tax program that doesn't do everything I need it to, I won't be using this any more. I cancelled their quickbooks product as it was equally deceptive with fees.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
