Needed Grok to get the job done

I had to do my return three times because I did not realize that not following the step-by-step sequence would confuse the program. Third time I did it exactly in the step-by-step sequence. How the program handles NOL is a weakness I think. Nothing indicating how to avoid AMT, so Grok saved me on that. I reduced the NOL I included 10 time before I was sure I had the right balance between consuming the least amount of NOL and keeping the tax bill as low as possible.

The change in user interface with the income downloads (Dividends, Intertest, etc) was confusing. ANd even after download the Needs Review statement would not go away.

Option trades better but still problematic

TurboTax used to completely fail in the capital gains on options. The data from, e.g. Fidelity or E*Trade would upload, but TurboTax would not handle the data for options correctly. Some options trades are "short", so the "buy date" would be after the "sell date". Some options trades are negative. Some options trades expire worthless. Many (but not all) of these situations would not be handled correctly, given the data downloaded from the broker, requiring hand editing and work-around hacks to be both correct and accepted by TurboTax. This is now much better, but it's still not completely right. This year, I still had to hand-edit about 100 transactions from my E*Trade account.
