Fix your download instructions

I really like TurboTax. I did not give it 5 stars because it was very difficult and time-consuming to figure out, after purchasing it, how to download TurboTax. It kept steering me towards the on-line version, which I hate. Who needs to answer questions like, "And how do you feel about filing your taxes?" Not me.

Good program

despite the tediousness of doing taxes, the program walks a person through the steps, the average person may have issues but it would be due to a lack of patience and comprehension

TurboTax User for Many Years

The TurboTax software is very helpful due to its complete categories. It covers everything. The Smart Check software makes sure nothing more is needed for filing electronically.
One point I would consider adding to the software is when filling out the tax returns as the Personal Representative (stated in the will - not appointed by the court) for a deceased person, it would be nice to find the the appropriate location/address within TurboTax software for mailing documents substantiating the death of the filer and the appointment of the Personal Representative.

Long time user, there are always problems but generally it works.
1. Got the "hit a snag" popup several times after startup, eventually it went away after I moved around the menus for a while. From the forum comments it looks like that's a real bug that needs to be fixed. Fortunately it didn't prevent me from completing my return. 2. Data import did not work as well as in the past. Some of the data from Fidelity got entered into forms twice, I had to track that down and fix it. Vanguard did not work at all. It required a document ID from a 1099 that I did not have, because that is what I was trying to download. Brainless. I gave up and went to VG's site and got the docs myself. This could be VG's fault, but if so why do you allow a useless function in your product? 3. Your new user interface for entering income info is a confusing mess. Say I select "enter interest" from the menu. It then goes to a page with large cartoon buttons for all income types and I have to select again. It then goes to a page with large cartoon buttons for all forms. The workflow makes no sense. And really a simple list makes more sense, you're able to see the entire list at once rather than scrolling down multiple pages. I don't think there was any way to distinguish different accounts here. Some of the imported ones were duplicates, which should not happen. 4. The supporting form info is not always accurate. One example: 1040SR Wks line 4b, taxable amount is determined by form 8606. You point to the 1099R instead. And you don't even point to the correct form, I had to look through 4 or 5 of them.
As I said above, there are always problems. These are the ones that were irritating enough to remember. But it does the job.

Too expensive for simple returns

Simple to walk through but it cost way too much to file a return for a student. $45 for the state software and $20 to file for a $0 return. I regret using TurboTax for this return.
