I rarely have questions, but the online community helps, and the website has clear answers.

Will not print documents for filing
on March 4, 2025

I have used TurboTax for many years and the only reason I paid to use it this year rather than filing free with Gov was because it had all my history in it. But this is the first time ever that it will not print filing documents or print to pdf for storing. I had to manipulate the export just to get a printed version. This print issue needs to be fixed or this program is useless.

TT works, but needs work
on March 4, 2025

TurboTax 2024 observations in no particular order…
1. When first starting TT, there were 8 files found that were available to transfer data from last year. Four had the same name and the other four had the same name but preceded by a tilde “~”. In actuality, there were two: one was the native TT file and the other was a PDF. Neither one of those files were preceded by a tilde.
2. The list of files were not viewable by scrolling. I had to use the up/down arrows.
3. I am not able to copy/paste my password into TT. I use a password manager and should be able to paste my mutual fund password. Why is this not allowed?
4. I cannot copy text from TT. Why not? It would make it easier to copy/paste into a web search.
5. Having to review a 1099-DIV without providing an account number is not helpful at all. I have multiple 1099-DIV forms and need to examine each one in order to complete the review.
6. Control-S does not work on every page.
7. Upon completion of the review of a 1099-B item, I am not returned to the place on the page where I started from.
8. On the page that states “Hey! You have 30 items that need review” there is no way to check your work. You can’t even redo your work. Something needs to be added to flag these items as having been modified by me.
9. On the page that lists all of the items needing review, I am able to sort by status to move all of the items needing review to the top. However, when I finish the review and am returned to that page, the ‘sort by status’ goes back to its default setting.
10. I have many 1099-DIVs. Provide a way for me to edit the form to give it a more meaningful name or just include the account number.
11. Sometimes I can move between fields using the ‘enter’ key. Sometimes I can’t.
12. When doing the review on the ‘check this entry’ page, TT will not allow you to scroll. You must use the vertical scroll bar.
TT also provides no information as to which (in this case a 1099-R) document needs to be reviewed. I should not have to search for the correct document.
13. When looking at the list of imported documents, my 1099-DIV and 1099-B both include account numbers. However, my 1099-R does not. Why?
14. There are too many instances where TT does not remember my response. It makes it impossible to review my work. Instead, I have to redo my work. When will TT finally fix this infuriating bug? It’s been like this for years.
15. When going to Forms to look at something, going back to Step-by-Step does not bring you back to where you were.
16. On the ‘Other Interest and Dividends’ page, besides not remembering what I previously selected, and instead of defaulting to blank, it defaults to the 2nd item: received interest payments from a seller financed mortgage.

Software issues a concern
on March 4, 2025

Using TurboTax Deluxe, I submitted my Federal return on February 28 and received an acknowledgement that it was accepted by the IRS. Today I logged into TurboTax to see if there were any updates. I noticed that the refund of $13,596 that was originally shown I would receive was reduced to a refund of $11,057, a reduction of $2539! As I looked to see what had happened, I was shown a window saying there were now 11 errors that needed to be corrected! ( It's important to note that the program had already checked for errors before I submitted my federal return and it was accepted by the IRS). In any event, I began working to correct the "errors", which involved retirement plans and and RMDs. After making corrections that TurboTax was directing me to, I got to the review section and selected "review for errors." Now the program wanted me to go back and review the same items I had "corrected"!!! I made those changes and now my projected refund went back to the $13,596 that was originally shown!!! I have used TurboTax for approximately twenty years and I have never had a mysterious occurrence like this. This past January I read quite a few of the reviews about TurboTax software problem issues but I told myself that surely Intuit would have things fixed by the end of February. Alas, apparently that was not the case. I am a long-time customer, but now also a gun-shy customer who is apprehensive about tax season for next year.
