We have used turbo tax for a number of years to file our taxes. It is extremely helpful. The questions asked in the software are to the point and easy to understand. The additional information provided in the software is also easy to understand and provides the necessary answers when I need additional information. We have a very basic return and we have not needed to use the offered tax experts.

Turbo Tax good as usual.

As usual Turbo Tax was easy to use. I've used it for about 15-20 years now. But I have three complaints.
1) When I printed out the return to check it over, there were a few numbers that I wanted to see what went into them. Normally I can click on "Forms" and see some detail behind the totals. This time my Forms button wasn't doing anything. Clicking on it went nowhere.
2) When done with Federal, I tried to go to State, and I kept getting a message about needing to supply a "keychain login password." I had no idea what to do and there was no help. The next day I logged into Intuit before opening up TT and I was able to get to the State return. The keychain login request was annoying and baffling.
3) I don't recall having to pay $25 to transmit my first state return. Is that new? Instead I printed and mailed my CA return.

I've used Turbo Tax for years and this was the worst. I couldn't get the software to load. Then realized my computer would no longer support the intuit program. Then I wasn't able to import info from last years return (and yes, I used Turbo Tax). I'll think twice next year about using this again.

Fed Good - State Filing Instructions Glitch

The product is good and easy to use. I was able to efile the same day I finished my taxes, but ran into a glitch with my state taxes. I did not file them electronically, but the only directions I got said I had efiled my state taxes. There was no intuitive way to go back in and get the correct set of instructions for mailing my state taxes.

Carry Over

I have used Turbo Tax for many years. When entering my information, I like how it brings up what I entered the previous year. Also I like how it brings up the basic personal information from previous year so I don't need to enter it again.

I inquired about how TurboTax calculates penalties on taxes due. I rolled over an IRA in the 4th quarter and paid the taxes due at that time. This roll-over caused a large bump in my income. TurboTax used the bump to calculate the total taxes due but spread them evenly over the year rather than ask when the bump occurred and when were the taxes paid on the bump. This caused a penalty when is shouldn't.
