turbo tax is the best!

28 Years Later - Still Awesome!

Another wonderful experience using TurboTax. I had to look back, and I saw that I have been doing this for 28 years! It's not always easy, but I have received help along the way through the TurboTax community and explanations within the program. I love how my information transfers over from year to year, and this contributes to the ease of doing my own taxes. Sometimes I switch to form view when I need a little more information from a form, but most of the time I just go through the prompts from screen-to-screen. However, after 28 years, I can pick what I want to work on. What I am saying that I have loved TurboTax for 28 years, and this was yet another good year - federal form and (this year!) two state forms.
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments

I do not trust the software anymore.

Used to be good, but not this year. How could it miss that I hadn't put in my social security that I get every year for over 10 years. It never asked. Then $1300 was to the IRS somehow at 11:59 pm on April 15th automatically. I didn't do that because I had already sent in a check for $1302 1040 ES 10 days ago. I do not trust the software anymore.

Overall the desktop product is fine for a basic tax return. I however found it less than clear and useful for an uncommon situation. My example, filing a return for a US Citizen living in a foreign country, marrying a non-US citizen, who has never lived in the US nor earned income in the US, has no SSN or ITIN. after electronic filing was rejected, two TurboTax Experts could not tell me the proper filing status nor provide me with the correct information on how to file electronically, whether I could , or if I needed to file by US mail. I will be requesting a refund of my payment for expert assistance.
