2024 Turbo Tax Deluxe Federal and State
on April 16, 2025

Turbo Tax has been consistently reliable all these years. It's the company that I trust when I do my tax yearly. For the year of 2025, I would like to see more guidance, more info, more details, and more links when doing the state return. For tax year 2024, I have noticed that when I did the state of California, there were limited guidance and even no guidance and explanation especially with new tax laws.

Too many glitches and errors on older tax years. Need to go back and fix previous years that are purchased like this!

Overall pretty convenient, have been using it for a long time. Took out one star because I paid for Deluxe Federal + State but ended up being charged extra for state right when I needed to file.

The Desktop Version Experience is Gut-Wrenching
on April 16, 2025

This will probably be the last time I even think about buying Turbo Tax Desktop. This is probably the most problematic, gut-wrenching hair-pulling experience I have ever had with any software. And that includes re-installing Windows after getting the Blue Screen of Death. The mandatory update for the Federal form required several hours--overnight-- of my computer running after hours of trying to find out why it hung up while allegedly trying to download Visual C++. I had to get all of my ideas on what to try from non-Intuit employees in several help forums. I was actually amazed, after going to bed at 3 am that the update finally worked the next day. (I gave up after staring at the wait for installation screen for hours.) Still, doing the State part was worse. Had I known that TT will not file federal tax extensions electronically, I certainly would have printed one out and mailed it before fighting with the Horrible state process. After about 5 hours of trying to figure out if the update was actually happening, I gave up and decided to file the extension at about 9 pm. Turbotax sure makes it seem that it will electronicallly file your extension, but whe you go through the process to request it, the ONLY thing TT will do for you is print an extension. If I made less money I could file the extension for Free online at the IRS website. The paid extension filers also only appear to offer Single-Not Married filing Jointly. Anyway, figuring out what was wrong with the state update took even more Google-searching of forums for a variety of things to try from non-Intuit employees. That process took me from about 9:30 p.m. to 2 AM. The successful attempt took about two hours of waiting for TT to actually do the update, after hours of watching the "5 minute" update appear to be working, but really doing nothing. I've been using TT desktop for about 28 years. I don't like online versions that keep my info in the cloud. I like having the information and program on my own computer. I have a feature rich "gaming computer" which I bought just to get allot of memory, durability and processing power. I have worked as a Local Area Network manager and am fairly tech savvy. Good equipment and experience helped little.
