BEWARE! Desktop version is a rip off!!

I have been using Turbo Tax online for probably 15 years now. I completed my 2022 taxes online & attempted to submit them by e-file, which I paid for. It was the very last day of state e-filing and I missed the cut-off by less than 5 minutes due to computer issues. I have NEVER had to file my taxes late any other time. The only reason it was so late this time was a missing 1099 from my state that took 10 months to get from them. When I missed the cutoff, the online program said to download the desktop version if I still wanted to efile. I PAID AGAIN (a LOT) for the desktop version. Everything transfered just fine, but again I was still not able to e-file with my state return. I then attempted e-filing without the state only to find out the program would STILL allow me to e-file even my federal return. I tried multiple times up until the end of the tax season. I resumed trying to e-file, with and without the state once e-filing resumed for 2023. Even though the program walks you through all the options and makes it appear as though it is going to e-file both the state and federal returns, when you go to submit it, it says sorry, tax season is closed for e-file, please mail your return. When you go back to print the return, it asks if you are sure you don't want to e-file instead since it's faster, you get your return sooner, and it's free for federal. So even though it keeps trying to get me to e-file, it will NOT let me e-file the return I paid TWICE to e-file. So after a year and a half I have given up, am printing my return and mailing it in. But I won't be fooled again into buying the desktop version.

Problems with Pension section

Usually pretty easy to use. I did have some trouble while entering my pension. It went as usual, up to a point. After the questions about public or private section, it went to concentration on 2A line [Annuities] about how the value was arrived at simplified or general and got caught in a loop. Returned to it the next day as I was asking my plan whether it was qualified or non-qualified. I'm guessing I may have click something wrong.

Turbo Tax Hiccup

This is the first time that I have had an issue with filing the actual return. The decision to show the reduced amount for my stated tax as if it was being used to pay my federal obligation is very confusing. Please change that for next year.

Out the packaging to filing was good! The cost of product is pricey, then pay to file is all a bit much! I always like a CD and a box to store !

TurboTax is user-friendly

Overall, my experience with TurboTax has been very positive, having used it now for 4-5 years. It's very intuitive and easy to plug in the numbers and move on. This year, I ran into a bit of a snag with a 401k rollover into another qualified account. After inputting the figures directly from the 1099 form, it was asking if it was going into a 403b or Roth account, and neither was true, so I checked "no". It didn't ask for the type of account, but I guess it doesn't matter since it went into a qualified rollover account and wasn't subject to tax.
Aside from that, everything seemed to go quite smoothly. Thanks for making a reasonably priced, user-friendly product. I'll be back again next year.
