Vague and confusing IRS payment plan instructions
on April 15, 2025
Posted by: Franco711
I was disappointed with the payment plan instructions and the lack of an option to set up a payment plan directly via the IRS website. Users are channeled to use the only available option in TurboTax to set up a payment plan through the software. Other users on the community website asked the same question and experienced the same confusion.

Uncertain if Turbo Tax is my friend

I have used Turbo Tax Deluxe for the past 10 years, however I am not always comfortable with the process. I feel like I am missing something at the end of each process/filing year.

TurboTax Is Great But It's Time For An AI Agent
on April 15, 2025

Especially for Federal filing only, TurboTax could benefit from an AI agent. Compared to all knowledge, the federal tax laws, IRS guidance, TT user experience, etc., are a relatively small data graph. ChatGPT Plus did a good job advising me, but I'd rather have and trust more such an agent built into TT that doesn't "steal" my financial information (I didn't share anything sensitive with ChatGPT). Your current SEARCH generates a forest of hits and isn't concise and to the point like ChatGPT. Also, the federal gov't should require financial institutions to include the necessary info to answer the interview questions about what type of RMD a form 1099-R represents.

It's just OK. Could be much better..

Some bugs that remain year after year. 1) After updates, it says the program will restart, but it doesn't. 2) The registration screen has a required fill-in screen "Keep Up To Date with Tax Law". I just put fake info so it doesn't nag me. There should be a choice of "SKIP". 3) "Forms" opens to the useless "Federal Information Worksheet" when not launching from a topic. It should go to the top "1040", which is the right answer MUCH more frequently. 4) There are many, many missing links. Every form field should double-click to its source. One for example is 1040/1040SR Wks, Tax Smart Worksheet, line A. The source is Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet, but have to find "Qual Div/Cap Gn" in the form list. 5) If I "Save", then "Close", it still asks me if I want to save. It should not. 6) Cannot paste passwords for bank downloads. What a pain. 7) Form "1040 Wks" is just an unnecessary extra step when drilling down into the forms. 8) Long forms (like cap gains) have an awkward scroll-within-scroll. It is easy to get lost. The forms should just get longer. 9) I cannot find a way to submit bugs and enhancement requested. If it's there, it is obscure. Like they don't really want input. For example: here "Review Guidelines" > "Contact Support" gives "This page isn’t working right now". There are many more...
Pros: I bought or sold investments
