TurboTax stole my money

I qualified for a free return and yet I ended up paying $80 for a service I didn't need. The site kept saying that I should choose an efile method instead of the mail method and advertised that I could spend $80 on software to be able to efile my 2021 returns, only to be told that it was not possible.

I've used Turbo Tax (TT) since the mid 1990's. It was all good until I entered my retirement account that a former employer released to me in 2024. Had to eat the over $1000 fee for over-funding my IRA, as no other options were offered, other than to upgrade from TT Premium to TT Deluxe, which I couldn't do, with the time-crunch I'd locked myself into. I guess I'll have to file an amended return through a CPA and the easy days of using TT to do my taxes are over.
Also, more folks would be interested in signing up for online TT with annual automatic renewals if you'd divulge the price. No one wants an unknown amount debited from their account, even if they are aware it will happen each November.

minor bugs this year

I am going to have to deduct one star because the 2024 Deluxe with autorenewal was not as smooth to use as the previous years Deluxe without autorenewal. In ALL my previous years of using TT, I have never had to reinstall TT or refer to TT support site on how to troubleshoot issues - but this year, TT would hang when trying to go through all sections, sometimes, would hang if I try to open individual sections. If I do everything in one shot it is smooth. But if I save after partial completion and return, I was not able to resume from where I left off - the product would just hang and created anxious moments for me
Also, the answers to questions changed after restarting TT, after previously saving a partially completed tax return, forcing me to do things all over again. To resolve, I had to remove students, remove W2s, remove 1099-INT 1099-DIV forms and readd them.
I found a workaround on the TT support, which instructed me to switch to Forms view and then delete the form and then revert to the Step-by-Step view - but I don't recall this working reliably.
