Turbotax is a steaming pile of garbage.

Terrible software. Terrible UX. Same terrible loading/etc since the last decade.

TurboTax is fist rate

1. At the beginning TurboTax asks if you have children, which is not what it really means. What it really means is "Do you have children who you are claiming as dependents?" The two questions are completely different and if you have children so you answer "yes" but they are not dependents it leads to numerous problems. This confusing language needs to be corrected. The question should be, "Do you have children who are dependents?" or some such thing. It feels so wrong to answer "no" when one does have children but that is what the user is forced to do.
2. When the user knows at the outset that they are going to take the standard deduction one should have a chance to early on in the process indicate that one is going to take the standard deduction and thereby avoid answering questions which only apply if one is itemizing deductions.
3. Entering data for dividends and capital gains, box for "uncommon situations" one of the boxes is "None of these apply to me." In multiple other areas, TurboTax gives a choice to mark a box next to the statement "None of these apply." The word "none" is singular so the label next to the box should read "None of these applies to me." or "None of these applies."
4. The Federal government section on Estimated Taxes doesn't allow the user to choose the amount of estimated tax to be paid each quarter (unlike the state tax section). The program provides several calculations for estimated taxes but none of them was correct for our situation. The program should allow the user to override the numbers proposed by TurboTax. We solved this problem by going into the "forms" view and changing the numbers manually but that is a clumsy way to fix the problem and many users wouldn't even know that that solution was available.
5. The newly revised method for entering 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, and 1099-B information does not allow entering data from two different kinds of income (for example interest and dividend) for a single entity. This should be corrected as a single entity may have, for example, interest and dividend income, in a given tax year.

Small windowed program

Program started as just a small window that could not be enlarged, it only covered 1/4 of the screen. I had all my info imputed and while working the program bumped me out to the log in screen. When I came back and logged back in everything was gone and I had to start all over. When it did start again it was a larger window that covered 2/3 of the screen but again could not be enlarged to full screen. Other than that, it functioned well and never booted me out of the program.
