Need for a pop up relative the the IRS pin.

In finalizing the return for transmittal, you ask for the pin and in attempting to put in the pin the IRS sent me, your program would not take a six digit pin from the IRS. It took some searching to find what I hope is the solution. I have now resubmitted my return and hopefully it will be accepted. It would have been nice for you to have had some sort of popup to explain what needed to be done rather than spending 45 minutes trying to find the answer.

Turbo Tax made filing easy.

The program made filing taxes easy. I appreciated how it walked me through the process.
I wish the additional filing fee was disclosed at the beginning of the process and not right before filing. I used Turbo Tax last year and don't remember a fee for filing federal taxes.

Meh. An imperfect option.

The most annoying part of doing my returns in TurboTax is that each time I revisit a topic to add or correct information, I have to go through every one of the screens to get to the place where I need to make a change. I also despise the state returns. They are clunky and I'm not always sure I'm getting the correct results. For example, I live in NM, but I cannot use TurboTax to file my NM return. I have a business with income from multiple states, and I am required by NM law to apportion that income between NM and the other states. This option is NOT available in TurboTax. The only option is to allocate my income and to receive a credit for taxes paid to other states. While the correct worksheet (PIT-B) is in TurboTax, it cannot be edited. There is no way to choose the option to use this worksheet and no input form for those worksheets. When I used the allocation method in TurboTax in the past, I received a notice from NM that I needed to amend my return and switch to the apportionment method. Fortunately, I can file my NM taxes online with the NM Taxpayer Access Point. I don't expect TurboTax to ever fix this problem. Even the big tax software packages (ProFx and UltraTax) don't get everything right for NM. I also resent the constant upsell offers that seem to guilt-trip me into paying for services I do not need. I am a CPA and I do not need TurboTax Live or Audit Defense. I also do not need anything more complex than the Deluxe version of TurboTax.

TurboTax Deluxe needs some work

After 3 or 4 "reviews" or automatic scans of the completed tax documents, when I went back to check something myself, it popped up with one unresolved issue that it had never presented before! Also, it included for some reason, unknown to me, a 1099-R form that needed my address and more information, but other than that was completely blank. I did not need to file a 1099-R and had a heck of a time figuring out how to delete that form. Also, I live in Texas, no state tax return needed. It told me that and told me how lucky I was, but then it turns right around when I am trying to wrap up and e-file, and it says, "Don't forget your state return"! These kinds of issues drive me nuts. I also wish it would go ahead and give you a copy of your itemized deductions that you spent hours compiling, only to be told, the standard deduction is the better choice. I would still like to have a record of all the itemized work I did, even if it is not used. I have used TurboTax for many years and consider myself a pro at using it, but I am getting disheartened by utilizing it. May have to consider another option next year.

No documention of assessed Penalty in Tax return
on April 14, 2025
Posted by: bachila
Stressfull!! In my 2024 federal tax return summary there is an assessed penalty/interest item. Nowhere in my return there is any explanation or documentation as to what caused this penaly so it can be corrected, attested, or prevented from occuring in future returns. How did TurboTax come up with the penalty calculation and why the Filer is not made aware during the return preparation until after the e-filing and printing the return summary?

While not the cheapest solution, it has always been very convenient.
