Was Fairly Smooth, but Missed a Critical Detail

My experience this year filing for the Premium Tax Credit revealed a critical oversight that significantly impacted my return.
While entering information related to the Premium Tax Credit (Form 8962), TurboTax failed to clearly indicate that a dependent’s Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) should not be included if the dependent was only filing to claim a refund and was not required to file a tax return. In my case, this nuance applied to my child, but the software provided no warning or clarification on this point. As a result, I mistakenly included their MAGI, which reduced my premium tax credit and lowered my refund.
Unfortunately, I only realized this after reviewing IRS instructions more closely post-filing. I’ve now had to submit an amended return to correct the mistake and claim the refund I was entitled to from the start.
This kind of detail is exactly where TurboTax should excel—flagging situations where IRS rules may be misapplied, especially in cases involving healthcare subsidies and dependent income. While the overall filing experience was smooth, this oversight cost me time, effort, and peace of mind.

done with upgrading systems

I am sick of the changes from one operating system to the next. I was told the business would be apple or windows and it wasnt as well. Lets stay with the operating system win 10 or mac but not a new upgrade every time we do taxes.

Too many in-product upsells; Federal filing is fine, but state is clunkier (somehow self-created some data entry issues for itemized deductions; descriptions can be vague)
Pros: My employment status changed this year, I bought or sold investments
