Turbo TAX is Great

2024 TurboTax Not as User Friendly as 2023

The 2024 version of TurboTax is less user friendly than the 2023 version.
The screen where one enters data for 1099-DIV, 1099-B, and 1099-INT forms was particularly annoying if you have many such forms. There are big bubbles for each form, so one has to scroll down quite some distance before finding many of the bubbles for which data entry is needed. Then once the down arrow has been selected so that the edit button is exposed so that data may be entered, one is immediately taken back to the top of the screen, forcing one to scroll back down before being able to actually press the edit button. Then once the data has been entered, when returning to the screen with the bubbles, one is returned to the top of that screen and must scroll down to start the process over again for the next bubble. That's a lot of unnecessary wasted effort!
If one needs to delete a placeholder bubble that was created by importing data about one of these 1099 forms from the 2023 tax return, then an overlaid confirmation bubble is created at the top on the scrolling window rather than beside the bubble that is to be deleted -- it took me a while to figure out that the program was not hung and that I needed to scroll back to the top to find the overlaid confirmation bubble. This was often the case when data was imported online from a financial institution, since that often created a new bubble and left the empty placeholder bubble for that institution from last year.
If one realizes a need to go back and correct any item, there is often no way (even using the search function) to go directly to the specific item one wishes to fix. Instead, one must start at the beginning of a long chain of questions that have already been correctly answered before slogging through to reach the single item that needed to be fixed. Some of the questions in the long chain seem to retain previously entered answers, while others do not, so one must stop at each question and read it again to make sure the previous answer has not reverted to the default before going on to the next question in the chain.
The search function does not seem to be capable of finding many of the locations in the program, even when seeking something when searching for the precise or nearly precise term used in the program for something.

Careful with State e-filing...$250

Makes filing tax really easy. However, when filing e-tax and asking to deduct it from money that will be returned, program is charging $250... be careful.

Not user friendly

This product is not user friendly for individuals who are not familiar with tax preparation. If there is an error, it should take you back to the location of the error so that the error can be fixed promptly and highlight the error in a bright color so that the user can easily find the error to correct it. The product should give examples of what information is needed (i.e. RMD) and where exactly the user can find the required information. If living in a state that does not require state taxes filed, the product should ask if you need to file state taxes by asking yes or no and have a drop down box with only the states that require state taxes filed.
