I have now used TurboTax for decades and wouldn't use any thing else. My only criticism is that the Foreign Tax section cannot be understood.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Why do you have to login?

I love using the softeare each year. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to "login" under my email address as I didn't have a password, and the codes sent to my email were NEVER accepted. Tried for over an hour. Ended up opening another account with another email. Why is this necessary

It's time consuming and the desktop version is more difficult than the online version. Some forms are not very well understood.
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments, I had a baby

Missed $$$ due to no prompting

The rating is not so much for this year, but the years past. Apparently there has been a subsistence allowance I qualified for, which was never prompted to me in the past years... it has been in effect since 1995. This would have saved me approximately $200 in state taxes each year.

Product is easy to use. Ability to back-up, open and close multiple times and edit easily makes it a breeze to estimate when/where needed and correct to exact values when identified.

Not as good as before

Then changes to the financial entry/download sections made the entire process more complicated and difficult to use.

Turbo Tax is pretty good, but has some flaws

Overall, my experience with Turbo Tax each year is good. The software is easy to use and fairly quick to complete. There are a few areas, however, that need attention as they waste my time every year. Washington State does not have an income tax. Turbo Tax, please stop wasting my time with so many prompts to file my State return! Vehicle licensing fees - Turbo Tax thinks that Washington State charges its vehicle license fees based on vehicle value, making them a type of property tax. I don't know if some counties do this, but Snohomish County does not, leading to me scrutinizing my tab renewals every year for nothing. Snohomish County, WA describes that the license fees are based on vehicle weight, but there is no information provided to break that down. Then Turbo Tax goes from being clueless to knowledgeable as it does indicate that some counties may charge an RTA (regional transit authority) fee on the license tab renewals. We are not subject to that where we live. Sales Tax deduction - one major complaint I have is that Turbo Tax only allows for one sales tax rate paid. Where we live, sales tax can range from 7.9% to 10.35% depending on where you happen to be when you are shopping. I have been disappointed in past years when trying to enter a major purchase that was made at a different rate (i.e. higher) than the local rate where I live. This is a disservice that you can't just enter the accurate information. Box 14 items - Other - there should be more information about common items that people may see on their W2s, so I don't have to spend 20 minutes trying to find the answer every year. The ones we have are FSA contributions, Washington worker's comp and PERS2, which is a lifetime retirement pension or 401(a) defined benefit plan. It seems like these are common enough items that Turbo Tax should just include them in the list of options so it isn't so nerve-wracking, or at least address it in the information available. Selecting "other" just seems like maybe I'm doing something wrong. At least if the information said "here are some common items" or that many of the items in box 14 do not need to be entered at all, it would be helpful for taxpayers (most people) who aren't familiar with what needs to be reported and what doesn't.
